How to shared folder using samba in ubuntu jaunty 9.04
Samba is an Open Source/Free Software suite thau usually use for provide sharing file and printer between different Operating System like linux and windows. In ubuntu jaunty 9.04 to enable sharing folder between two computer, you must install samba first by using command :
sudo apt-get install samba
After install samba, edit the smb.conf ( /etc/samba/smb.conf )
sudo nano/etc/samba/smb.conf
Change Workgroup to your home network. Then save the configuration.
After that, by right click the folder that you want to share and choose sharing options. the option windows will appear and give a check to share this folder and guest access.
Now you restart your samba
sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart
Test your home network using another PC or from your PC to another

What’s wrong with checking a checkbox in folder properties and following the prompts, allowing Ubuntu to install and configure everything for you?Comment posted using

nothing wrong. it’s just a way to sharing folder. its up to you to using this samba or not. but samba give a lot of featureComment posted using

Well, the fact that I can’t figure out how to set a workgroup without hand-editing smb.conf could be said to be a step backwards from, say, Ubuntu 7.04Comment posted using

Any suggestions on how to share a map on a NAS this way? There is no right-click “sharing options” for network folders?!Comment posted using

ok I did all that but im trying to access the folder using another jaunty system and I dont know where to begin. All of the guides are for accessing the folder from a windows system but none are for another ubuntu system.Comment posted using
