Install facebook plugin in pidgin on ubuntu hardy 8.04

If you usually using facebook as your social utility to connect to your friends, you should know about chat feature in facebook. In this article, i just want to share my experience how to make facebook chat feature accessed from pidgin in linux especially on ubuntu hardy 8.04.
First of all, is downloading the pidgin-facebook package from code.google.com. If you using pidgin on your Ubuntu hardy like me you must install libjson-glib manually first because it’s require by facebook-pidgin. I’m download libjson-glib package from interpid library here cause there is no package for hardy.

How to install picasa 3 on ubuntu jaunty 9.04

did you know about picasa ? Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organized
First of All, make sure you have add Google’s package signing key, Run this command as root :

sudo wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add -

Picasa ready in linux and windows. To using it on windows add this repository to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ testing non-free

After that, do update

sudo apt-get update

After update was finished, install picasa package using command :

sudo apt-get install picasa

Run picasa and locate all your pictures . It wil sort them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize

How to shared folder using samba in ubuntu jaunty 9.04

Samba is an Open Source/Free Software suite thau usually use for provide sharing file and printer between different Operating System like linux and windows. In ubuntu jaunty 9.04 to enable sharing folder between two computer, you must install samba first by using command :

sudo apt-get install samba

After install samba, edit the smb.conf ( /etc/samba/smb.conf )

sudo nano/etc/samba/smb.conf

Change Workgroup to your home network. Then save the configuration.
After that, by right click the folder that you want to share and choose sharing options. the option windows will appear and give a check to share this folder and guest access.
Now you restart your samba

sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart

Test your home network using another PC or from your PC to another
